Bicycling
can be one of the most memorable activities for children. In addition
to being a fun and healthy way to enjoy the outdoors, bicycling
is an activity that your entire family can participate in year-round.
One
of the most important things you can do to ensure your child's safety
on their bike is to insist that they always wear a helmet when they
ride. We strongly recommend that you and your children wear a properly-fitted
helmet at all times while riding your bikes. Perhaps the most common
misperception regarding helmet use is that you have to be going
fast to injure yourself. The fact is - many serious injuries occur
at low speeds.
For
more information on helmet safety and how to choose the right helmet,
visit the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute online at www.bhsi.org
. Additionally, The Bicycle Wheel carries helmets for riders
of all ages and abilities (including infants), and our staff will
be glad to demonstrate how to check for the proper fit.
The Bicycle Wheel prides itself on promoting safety and we would
be delighted to answer any questions you have regarding safe riding.
We also hold free safety seminars at local schools, Scout troops
and businesses at various times throughout the year. If you know
of a school or group that would be interested in having us holding
a free safety seminar, let us know!
